Our Old Fashioned

Subtle notes of brown sugar and spice complement this whiskey-revived cocktail. Served on the rocks.
Ingredients
  • 2 oz Burton James Uniquely American Whiskey
  • ½ oz Brown Sugar (Demerara) Syrup*
  • 2-3 dashes Aromatic Bitters 
  • Cocktail Cherry & Orange Twist (for garnish)
Instructions
  1. Add Whiskey, Syrup, and Bitters to an ice-filled mixing glass.
  2. Stir vigorously for 15 seconds.
  3. Strain over a large ice sphere or cube into a chilled rocks glass. (Standard ice works just as well.)
  4. Gently twist an orange peel over glass to express oil, then place in glass.
  5. Garnish with cocktail cherry and serve.

Variation: Substitute maple syrup for the brown sugar syrup to incorporate a warm, jovial finish to this cocktail—great for brunches and holiday parties.

*Brown Sugar (Demerara) Syrup Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown or demerara sugar (such as Sugar In The Raw)

Instructions
  1. Combine water and sugar in a microwave-safe container.
  2. Microwave on high until mixture just starts to boil—about 3 minutes.
  3. Remove and stir to fully dissolve. If needed, microwave in 30 second increments until incorporated.
  4. Let mixture sit until cool before transferring to a sealable container.
  5. Store refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
