Burton’s Derby

A race-day-ready whiskey cocktail featuring fresh grapefruit & a hint of rich, golden honey.
Ingredients
  • 2 oz Burton James Uniquely American Whiskey
  • 1 oz Pink or Red Grapefruit Juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
  • ½ oz Honey Syrup*
  • Grapefruit Twist (for garnish)
Instructions
  1. Add Whiskey, Grapefruit Juice, and Honey Syrup to an ice-filled cocktail shaker.
  2. Cap the tin and shake vigorously until frost begins to form on the outside, about 15 seconds. 
  3. Strain into a chilled Martini, Nick & Nora, or Coupe glass.
  4. Garnish with a grapefruit twist and serve.

Variation: Throw a fresh sprig of Rosemary or Thyme into the ice-filled cocktail shaker along with your spirits to introduce an earthy, herbaceous element to the mix.

*Honey Syrup Recipe

Ingredients
  • ½ Cup Water
  • ½ Cup Honey
Instructions
  1. Combine water and honey in a microwave-safe container.
  2. Microwave on high until mixture just starts to boil—about 3 minutes.
  3. Remove and stir to fully dissolve. If needed, microwave in 30 second increments until incorporated.
  4. Let mixture sit until cool before transferring to a sealable container.
  5. Store refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
